@roxy_ride.and.inspire "Just stay loose!" – Yeah, but how? 🤔 Sure, we’ve all heard it. It’s common sense – or even a “duh” tip. But as a full-time MTB coach, I can tell you this: most riders KNOW it, but they don’t actually DO it. And that’s where things go wrong on chunky terrain. To truly separate the bike from your body, you need to: ✅ Keep your weight balanced through your legs (not hanging on the bars!) ✅ Use the foot wedge©️to control your position and maintain traction ✅ Constantly reposition your body to stay balanced over the bottom bracket – not getting pulled around by the bike 💡 Try this: 1️⃣ Find a small roll-down and focus on getting LOW before the roll down, then keeping your torso stable while letting the bike move freely underneath you. 2️⃣ Once that feels good, try a series of roll-downs. 👀 Are you stable, or is your bike pulling you – because you are sitting back? 😖Struggling with this? It’s NOT just about technique. If you lack strength, mobility, or stability, your body literally won’t let you move the way you need to. 🔥 That’s exactly why I created my Live Online Skill Up Program – starting in March! This program fixes the hidden limitations that hold you back on the bike. @roxy_ride.and.inspire There are more of these “tip-traps”: ➖ Just push the bike forward ➖ Just go fast and pull up ➖ Just send it ➖ Just go faster No, none of these tips is really helpful for adult mountain bikers learning how to drop or catch air. But, let me defend the tip-givers and say: for them it probably really FEELS that way and these tips are (usually) well-intended. Why? They probably learnt these skills at a young age. (If youre a youngster reading this, swipe next, this is not for you). Fact is: Learning skills as an adult is different from learning as a kid! When teaching kids, it’s key to SHOW them a good technique und then allowing them to PLAY and improve. The kid will watch and mimic what they SEE, pretty much regardless of what you TELL them to do. A kid will then practice a lot and correct their errors with time – as a kid still has more of a self-feedback-loop based on trial and error. Adults, however, will not only need a more detailed EXPLANATION, but also clear coaching CUES – and then they will need more TIME and practice to build the skills, AND will also respond to (and depend on) VERBAL feedback much more. CONCLUSION and morale of the video: It’s key to get specific cues and feedback that’ll actually work for YOU, your height, your bike and your background. I’m on a 29” bike here, so is Berni. As a petite rider I thus have less range of motion available. Luckily I saved it. But it could’ve gone worse. If you’re learning to drop as an adult, here are our 3 golden tips coming from us as full-time-coaches: 1️⃣ Acknowledge that learning skills takes practice over time 2️⃣ Make sure you have a CLEAR mental image of the skill before attempting it 3️⃣ Never increase the consequences of a move before you’ve reached CONSISTENCY on a non-consequence obstacle Find this helpful? @roxy_ride.and.inspire Body positioning seems like a simple skill, yet, as a full time mountain bike skills coach I can tell you that more than 80% of the crashes I see are caused by body positioning mistakes. In fact, one of the most common errors on roll-downs (and in steep downhills) is the still-commonly-given bro tip: Just move back! Don’t get me wrong: YES the bike needs to move forward into the steep, so you DO want to be behind the saddle during the roll-down/steep downhill, BUT you want to gently guide the bike forward in CONTROL. Why will this give us control? When we stay balanced and stable through the feet with our center of mass over the bottom bracket – and move the bike beneath us – we generate traction and direction, which gives the system stability. How do we do that? ✅ Stay evenly and heavily planted through the feet and use arms and legs as natural suspension ➡️ The body (the heavy mass) STAYS balanced, while the bike (the light mass) moves. Why not to move back? Once you move back and hang off your bars, the bike will take control – you (the heavy mass) will be pulled forward, which takes traction (and direction) off the front tire and can cause a “catapult effect” whereby the bike “spits” the body forward and can even send you over the bars. The more advanced the rider and the more technical the terrain, the more important TINY nuances in body positioning become. 💪 Let’s work together to find the tiny nuances you’re currently missing to arrive at the bottom of the trial KNOWING and FEELING why and how you just stayed in control! @roxy_ride.and.inspire 2 extra tips below (and a safety note)👇 Surfing rollers on a pump track eluded me for YEARS. But with consistent practice, I finally unlocked SUCCESS 😍 What did I practice? 1️⃣ Manual front wheel lift in a parking lot – This ingrained the right MOVEMENT PATTERN (You want to follow my proven drills? Check the link in my bio!) 2️⃣ Popping the front wheel off little obstacles on the trail – This fine-tuned my TIMING 3️⃣ Pumping! – THIS improved my timing, coordination and quick strength and mental readiness – making me comfortable with the speed needed. Now, here’s the promised safety note and 2 extra tips: ⚠️ ALWAYS cover the rear brake! If the front wheel rises too high, gently engaging the rear brake will prevent a loop-out. ✅ Lock out your rear suspension when riding a pump track on a full-suspension MTB. It makes acceleration easier and simplifies the manual motion. ✅ Consistency is key! Manual front wheel lifts demand precise timing and upper body strength in muscles we rarely use – especially if you’re a woman or a mountain biker at an advanced age. Let go of the idea that you can master them in just a few hours during a clinic. Put in the reps over time, and you WILL succeed! Save this and share it! Not only will this motivate me to keep sharing my tips, but it will also help make mountain biking more enjoyable. Together, we can promote a PRACTICE CULTURE – the ultimate key to developing more skills, reducing crashes, and having way more fun on the trails! #mtbtricks #mountainbiking #mtbgirl #mtbmanual #mtbtutorial #mtb

@roxy_ride.and.inspire ❄️ THE game-changer to navigating „swampy“ terrain (like sand or snow) is maintaining proper weight distribution. The looser the terrain, the faster already small nuances in these fundamentals lead to your wheels getting stuck! ✅ By keeping your weight in your feet, you create stability and control. ✅ Your hands should remain light and your arms relaxed, allowing the handlebars to move slightly as the front wheel reacts to the uneven surface. 👉This lets the wheels naturally find the best line without excessive steering input, which could cause you to lose balance or sink deeper. Here are 2 extra tips for riding sand or snow: 1️⃣ Especially in very deep sand/snow: momentum is your friend. Momentum helps the wheels glide over soft surfaces rather than sinking into them. ✅ Keep a steady speed and avoid stopping if possible: Sudden braking or pedaling too hard can cause your tires to dig in and get stuck. 2️⃣ Lower your tire pressure and prefer wider tires (this is where the fatbike trend originated) ✅ Lowering your tire pressure increases the surface area of your tires, improving traction and reducing the chance of sinking. ⚠️Be careful not to go too low, as it may risk damaging your rims – aim for the lower end of your recommended pressure range. ❓Want tips on how to find your ideal tire pressure? @roxy_ride.and.inspire The ONE principle that transformed my riding (and later my coaching) is simple but powerful: Fundamentals over fads. If you’ve been here for a while, you know I say this all the time. Why? Because it truly MATTERS. FUNdamentals are the foundation of riding safely and having fun 🤩 And the biggest fundamental – the one everything else builds on – is BODY POSITIONING. So, how can you feel that your center of mass (COM) is over your bottom bracket? And why is this so important? 1️⃣ How to feel it: ✔️ Stay fully weighted through your feet. ✔️ Imagine not needing the handlebars to position your body. 👁️🗨️ Picture yourself standing on level, equally weighted pedals, allowing the bike to move freely beneath you (by using your arms & legs as your body suspension) while you remain stable. ✔️ If your head is stable and you’re feeling „heavy feet, light hands“ you’re doing great! 2️⃣ Why it’s crucial: ▪️The cranks are the only bike part that can move freely. ▪️Staying fully weighted on the pedals allows the bike to shift (front-to-back and side-to-side) without transferring those movements to your body. In other words: The cranks can stay level, even when the bike moves and adjusts to the terrain. ➡️ The result? A stable body = improved traction, more control, and the ability for your wheels to roll over obstacles effortlessly without getting stuck. 💡 SHARE and SAVE this video to highlight the importance of “Fundamentals over Fads” – because mastering the basics is what truly sets experts apart! 💪 #mountainbiking #mtbcoaching #mtbtutorial #ridingposition #fundamentals #mtbtips #roxybike

@roxy_ride.and.inspire Why Are Bunny Hops Harder for Shorter Women? It’s a mix of biomechanics, leverage & power-to-weight ratio—and here’s why: 1️⃣ Lower Body Mass = A “Heavier” Bike A typical MTB weighs ~14kg—for me, that’s 27% of my body weight. That’s like Berni riding a 21.7kg (48 lbs) bike! 🚴♂️💥 2️⃣ Shorter Limb Length & Reach Less arm reach = less pulling range during the explosive lift-off. And if the bike’s slightly too long (which is common for smaller riders on modern bikes), pulling it up becomes even harder! 3️⃣ Less Absolute Power & Fast-Twitch Strength Science says: women naturally have a lower muscle-to-weight ratio & fewer fast-twitch fibers. But bunny hops are a quick-twitch power move – meaning petite women need to develop WAY more strength to reach the same lift as a taller, stronger man! 4️⃣ Bike Fit & Geometry Issues Most XS/S frames aren’t proportionally scaled – with chainstays, crank arms, and wheelbases staying similar to larger sizes. Bigger wheels also limit range of motion (ROM), making them even harder to lift! So can petite riders bunny hop? YES 👏 But we need: ✅ Adjusted technique ✅ Specific strength & power training ✅ More time, grit & patience ✅ Shorter bars & cranks for better mechanics 🔥 If you want my step-by-step at-home practice plan with personal feedback, send me a message, and I’ll hook you up! Final takeaway: Don’t let anyone (especially tall, strong guys 😆) tell you: “It’s easy, just pull up!” 💪 Ditch unrealistic comparisons, train the right moves, and make it happen – even if our hops will always be a bit smaller and harder to learn!🐰 #bunnyhop #mtb #menvswomen #womeninmaledominatingfields #mtbcoaching @BernhardHavelkaMTB

@roxy_ride.and.inspire ⚠️ Yes, it looks easy, but do NOT attempt this move in a similar situation straight away. First off: no, you do not just need “balls“ to pull off a nose pivot turn (also called endo turn) in a technical switchback like here. Because, even if we quickly understand EVERY detail of a move, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to learn to PERFORM movements simply by watching. BUT the good news is: We CAN learn almost any skill (even at an old age)- IF we persistently PRACTICE methodically in a SAFE environment. (The brain MUST feel safe to learn!) Only with practice it’s possible to build movement PATTERNS (picture these as highways in the brain), which we can THEN use „on autopilot“, even when the cost of mistakes is high. If the autopilot is not strong enough, it’s NORMAL and HEALTHY to feel fear. How to learn this move? (Or other complex move like bunny hops, jumps, or a combination of skills, like the ones you need to ride super technical terrain safely) By deconstructing its individual elements and then practicing with step by step DRILLS, with enough rest in between! Only this will allow your brain to build those highways (often referred to as muscle memory). Fact is: Tutorials of the end form do help to some extent, but nothing will replace practice. @roxy_ride.and.inspire A 1 minute read that can save lives👇 Yes, DOING as I explain in this 30 second reel WILL improve your jumps! But I’m NOT saying: „Improve your jumping skills in 30 seconds“. That would be wrong & irresponsible. Reading this caption until the end will explain. Jumping is THE skill with the highest cost of error. Only tiny body positioning mistakes can cause serious injury, or worse. In my professional coaching experience, adults should work their way way up to jumps PATIENTLY! And skills instructors should acknowledge their responsibility by working on jumps with their clients LONG term, vs making false marketing promises like „learn to jump in 4 hours“. As an adult it’s neurologically and anatomically impossible to learn LASTING movement patterns, (which are ESSENTIAL to jump safely) within a few hours. Because developing coordination, timing, strength, skill, experience & finesse (elements that make up „jumping skills“) require dedicated practice over weeks to months – or do you believe a single day in the gym builds a huge biceps? 💪 I know you may not want to hear this, but it’s a fact. I also recommend to learn to bunny hop BEFORE learning to jump, as your body then has tools to actively angulate the bike in the air, intelligence to adjust the take off (which decides 90% of the trajectory) and strength & grit to build upon. Though I’m not a huge fan of these jump ramps (as they’re short and „kicky“), they CAN improve your jumping skills, as you can easily create the reps and can also place the ramp in front of different landings to start playing with different speeds, landing angles and distances. (Link to ramp in bio) BUT please acknowledge that learning skills as an adult takes DELIBERATE practice over time, and if you want to avoid injuries, then DO build reliable motor patterns in a consequence-free environment first, before taking random patterns to high-risk environments. @roxy_ride.and.inspire One thing that keeps mountain bikers both from riding tight switchbacks and from pivoting them is their LINE CHOICE. In this split screen analysis I demonstrate the different position of the front wheel while entering – based on the technique I’ll use. BUT, line choice is like a pretty wrapping around a gift. It’s pretty – but: No amount of wrapping will make up for an empty box… How can you fill up the box? By refining your foundational riding skills first. How to refine them? Although I love a to have you here 🤓 – You won’t learn to perform skills by watching. You’ll learn by PRACTICING in a safe environment first – often enough – until they’re automatized. And THEN you can start to combine these skills on the trails and focus on details such as your line choice 🤓 The prerequisites (foundational skills) to both riding and pivoting switchbacks are: ✅ Trackstands (check the link in my bio or comment below to get a FREE home training course to finally nail the Trackstand – which is an essential skill for MANY advanced maneuvers and safety on trails!) ✅ Braking skills, because in switchbacks extremely finely modulated brakes are KEY – especially when you advance to pivoting and riding technical turns ✅ Fine nuances in your body positioning (if you’d like to work with my practice catalogue right on your doorstep, comment below) and if you want a detailed video explaining the PHYSICS, biomechanics and ANATOMY of why NOT to drop both heels, check my channel!) In my full time coaching experience I see most riders jump ahead to super technical trails and tight turns, where individual skills need to be applied in COMBINATION, expecting WOW-skills out on the trails, without actually spending time refining their foundational skills (like the ones named above) first. Just like football, tennis or gymnastics, mountain biking is a sport with essential techniques – refining them will make you a safer, more efficient and faster rider. Let’s work together to finally nail that section you’re currently walking 🔥 #mountainbiking #switchback #nosepress #mtbskills #mtbcoach

@roxy_ride.and.inspire Why do these help?! 1️⃣ Dropping the saddle a tiny bit on technical and twisty uphills can help you maneuver the bike better, as it gives you a bit more ROM on the saddle to move your hips around – but beware not to drop it too far, as you still need effective pedaling power. 2️⃣ Modulating the rear brake (especially, but not exclusively on an emtb) DURING a loose and tight turn helps to increase grip through a smoother power transfer! 🤔 What, wait, what? Did she just say modulate the brake UPHILL? 💪 I sure did. The rear brake acts as a “clutch” and therefore avoids sudden spikes of power, which can cause a loss of traction. 3️⃣ THIS one is a game changer – for me it was THE hack for uphill switchbacks! Lowering the upper body, tipping the inside shoulder into the turn, rotating with the steer: shoulders matching bars – suddenly I WHIZZED around turns. Try them and SHARE this with a friend who’s struggling on uphill turns. Find this helpful? I’d love to know more about it 🥰😍 #mtbskills #switchback #uphill #mtb #mountainbiking #mtbcoach

@roxy_ride.and.inspire How is this even possible? It’s possible by thinking outside the box! By questioning something everyone takes for granted, which is a maxim I’ve been living by for years. Usually, mountain bike tires are threaded diagonally (like the tire shown in the bottom video) Schwalbe just released a new carcass – the radial carcass – shown in the top video – which puts the threads at a less steep angle, which means the material is under less pressure and can thus adapt to unevenness better! At the same tire pressure, this increases the contact patch by a whopping 30%! And even at 8 psi more tire pressure (+0.5 bar) it increases the contact patch by +10%! How does this feel on the trails?! ✅ More comfort ✅ Smoother overall ✅ Gives more confidence on loose trails ✅ Less bouncing and slipping ✅ Faster braking I tried the tires and released a detailed video sharing my personal experience with them. (BTW: This drill is just ONE of hundreds of methodical drills you’ll get if you start working with my practice catalogues – PLUS you’ll get my personal feedback to avoid ingraining errors – check the link in my bio or send me a message if you have questions! 😍) Did you know that riding tight switchbacks is “just” a matter of combining the following skills: ✔️Body positioning ✔️Braking ✔️Equilibrium ✔️Line choice & vision ✔️Wheel awareness And THEN, after you’ve learnt, practiced and consolidated these skills, it’s about combining and applying these skills to more and more “constraints” – ie limited space and limited traction/increased obstacles. That’s it 🤷♀️ SO – if that’s it: How to learn these skills? By: 1️⃣ chunking the skill into digestible parts 2️⃣ PRACTICING each part individually in a safe environment 3️⃣ Putting the parts back together and finally: 4️⃣ adding complexity. Most mountain bikers, hovewer, try to add complexity (aka ride technical trails) before doing step 1,2 & 3. 😄 (and then they crash, develop fears and wonder why….) I’m here to tell you: THERE IS A SAFE WAY TO LEARN mountain biking – even at an advanced age! Here’s a detailed description of the shown drill as promised: 1️⃣ Place a cone/glove on flat ground 2️⃣ Dodge it by steering your front wheel around it on one side and the rear wheel on the other (goal: learn controlled steering and wheel awareness) 3️⃣ THEN do this on a slight downhill slope (grippy conditions) and add smoooooth braking (goal: maintain a steady slow speed) 4️⃣ THEN add loose ground or increase the steepness (now you’re combining the above and improving your traction control and braking) Repeat 🔁 repeat 🔁 repeat 🔁, until your moves are smooth & controlled. 5️⃣ Take it to the trails and BE STOKED about your confidence and control. 🎉 That’s why my motto is: Competence breeds confidence. Remember: we can work together to make this process easier for you and to identify and correct your causal errors, before you ingrain them (by repeating them over and over) and before they cause stagnation or pain. @roxy_ride.and.inspire NO! Drifting is NOT the skill of choice for natural trails and switchbacks in the woods – BUT it’s a valid technique for some bike parks, built/maintained trails and races – OH and for sandy coal fields like I show here 😇 Why learn to drift? 1. Every skill you add to your toolbox 🧰 is helpful 2. It’s an epic shot 📸 Isn’t it?! 3. On built trails being able to drift will make you faster, too – but it’s definitely not a foundational skill 🤓 With this quick guide for drift beginners I want to invite you to PLAY MORE – (especially in sandy terrain) AND I want to inspire you to practice in the flat before you expecting skills to work on trails. In general. Because PRACTICING in a safe environment is key to control, finesse and joy in tough terrain! (If that’s what you want to ride 😊) 👉 Build the skills where you don’t need them – to be able to apply them where you DO need them. OR, don’t ride trails where you need skills – that’s okay, too 🤓 Just don’t expect skills to appear magically 🪄☺️ #mtbforyou #mountainbiking #doyouevendriftbro #drift #mtbdrift #mtbgirl #mtb @EnduraOfficial @SQlab GmbH

@roxy_ride.and.inspire Don’t fall for the myth of favoring the rear brake in steep, loose chunk. ✅ In this section I’m braking about 95% with my front brake and using the rear brake for slight assistance only. This ensures speed control with minimum skidding = maximum control 💪 2️⃣ Tip 2: Get low in the bike, bend your arms and legs to bring your center of mass lower – but make sure to stay nimble to use your limbs as your natural suspension. 3️⃣ Tip 3: Don’t go FULL elbows out! (Often called attack or 🦍 gorilla) Why? Can you see how I need to balance sideways, using subtle handlebar movements to stay on my line? To reach this and to maintain controlled braking throughout, it’s much more efficient for your upper body muscles (and healthier for your shoulders) when the elbows are at a natural angle, like I demo. @roxy_ride.and.inspire I literally get asked this every day: “How do I get rid my fear of steep, loose downhills?” OR “How do I DOMINATE descents?” The reason I group these 2 questions together is that in over 90% of the cases the answer to them is THIS post 😊 ❓Ok, so WHY is moving rearward NOT safe?! ❌ Moving rearwards means that you’re ACTIVELY shifting your weight to your rear foot, this means that you’re not evenly weighted = you don’t have a stable base of support. ❌ Also, you’re taking off the weight of the front wheel, the wheel that gives you and your bike DIRECTION and the wheel with more braking power (ie if you brake with both brakes evenly, your front brake will slow you down MUCH more than your rear brake) ❓Why not use more of the rear brake? ❌ Because it has MUCH less braking power than your front brake. If you make it a habit, you will never be able to ride super steep stuff in control, as you will not be able to decrease or maintain your speed. You MUST start to trust and use your front brake: ✅ An easy rule of thumb is: the steeper, the more front brake needed. ⚠️ But beware: You need to correct BOTH – the body position AND the braking! @roxy_ride.and.inspire 🤦♀️ Most common myth I hear is: STAY SEATED as long as possible on climbs. (This is a full-time skills coach speaking here) 😇 As always with myths, there is some truth to this: it’s easier for most riders to pedal while seated. ➡️ Of course it requires less power if most of your body’s weight is carried by the saddle 👉 But mostly it’s easier, because it’s what we USUALLY do!! ➡️ And everything we’re USED TO DOING is EASY 😃 … BUT: I‘m sure you’ve heard „Growth takes place outside of the comfort zone“ 👉 And the same applies to uphill skills. 💪 When the terrain is techy and/or very steep, you MUST stand up to have control over your front tire and to generate traction on both tires. (At some level you will get stuck if you always stay seated or your front wheel will lift) 🤌 This also means: You must PRACTICE standing pedaling, BEFORE you actually need it – to develop the strength in your glutes, thighs, core and the coordination for it! ❓Why the coordination? ✅ Because we need to maneuver our body’s center of mass to where it belongs to avoid our rear wheel loosing traction/or front wheel lifting and we need to develop the finesse while pedaling to avoid „strength peaks“ – which will also cause the rear wheel to slip! ❗️If your rear wheel is spinning/loosing traction when you stand up, it’s NOT because „you need to put more weight on it by sitting down“ 😵💫 – it’s because you’ve shifted your hips too far forward! ✅ Technically, you can ride all uphills standing up, if you have the strength and coordination to keep adjusting your hips and thus COM on the bike (I’m NOT saying you SHOULD ride ALL uphills standing, but you could!) ❌ If your front wheel is lifting or the handlebar is wobbly, that’s because your hips are too far rearward! ✅ Shift your hips forward and stand up as it gets steeper. 😍 Find this helpful? @roxy_ride.and.inspire Oh I WISH they would’ve told me this when I started practicing endos! A rider who learnt this skill at a young age will probably say: „it’s easy, just engage the front brake and lift the rear“ … well, if you’re an adult learning endos – it’s NOT.THAT.EASY. (This actually applies to many skills) BUT – learning skills CAN be easy, if you know WHAT to do, and THEN practice in a methodical manner, with SAFE step-by-step progressions. (🧠 Brain Fact: As an adult, you need to feel safe to learn NEW movement patterns – because this is what brings your brain into a „learning zone“ vs a „performance zone“!) Here are my top tips to practice endos: 1️⃣ Stay away from anyone who says “it’s easy, JUST….” 2️⃣ Start in the flat or on a VERY slight downhill with flat pedals at a slow walking pace 3️⃣ Get low, engage the front brake gradually 4️⃣ The moment you lock the front brake, extend up and bring your weight into your STRONG arms (see common error) 5️⃣ allow the rear end to lift gently by allowing that weight transfer and maintaining a strong core to „connect“ your handlebar to your pedals (start with SMALL lifts!) 6️⃣ Work your way up gradually and allow yourself the time (probably days or maybe even weeks!) to start feeling safer and safer with the rear wheel up 🆙 7️⃣ ⚠️ If the rear end lifts too high: release the front brake and/or bring your hips rearwards and bend at the knees 💥 Pro Tip for extra endo height: Once you’re confident and have taken the time for the first 7 steps, deliberately push the handlebars forward as the rear wheel lifts, bend the legs and push the hips back. ➡️ Now that you know this, REWATCH the video. ➡️ Can you see these movements in the extra high Endo? @roxy_ride.and.inspire The most common error I see on steeps and roll-downs is ACTIVELY moving rearwards. Heres why you dont want to do that. Your bike is very sensitive 😇 No, seriously, it literally reacts to what you do: ❗️Because your body is the heavy mass and your bike is the light mass. 👉This means: If YOU move rearwards, you take traction off your front tire. ➡️ This can cause front wheel washouts ➡️ It can cause a loss of control ➡️ If you now do this on a succession of roll-downs, a crash becomes very likely 🤕 Want to turn this knowledge into bodily abilities? Then work with my proven pro drills (link in my bio!) because competence brings CONFIDENCE 😍✊ #mtbcoach #mtbforyou #commonerrors #mtbfail #mtbskills #mtblife #mountaimbiking #roxybike

@roxy_ride.and.inspire You HAVE to try this super effective „hack“ to turn every trail into a FUN jump trail! When I started to learn bunny hops I would have NEVER guessed that a tiny rock 🪨 could serve as a jump ramp. Well, it can 💪🔥 ⚠️ But first: A note of caution! ‼️ Cover your rear brake during practice. As soon as you nail the timing of the manual FWL against the obstacle, your front wheel will come up with EASE 🚀 😵💫Not covering the rear brake can cause a loop out. 👉 Work your way up slowly and cover the brake! ❓How❓ 1️⃣ Find a small rock/root or curb 2️⃣ Initiate a manual FWL (see last post) shortly before the curb 3️⃣ The timing is right if your front tire is popped off the obstacle 4️⃣ Stay heavy on feet until shortly before the rear wheel hits the obstacle 5️⃣ As the rear wheel gets popped off the obstacle stand up, release the pressure through the feet and pull the handlebar towards your thighs 6️⃣ To amplify the height: then immediately pull the handlebar UP and push it forward, while softening the knees 7️⃣ Land as smooth as a kitty cat 🐱 💞 Do you know someone struggling with getting bunny hop height? Share this video with them! ♻️ and check the link in my bio! Bonus Tip: This hack is a #gamechanger for e-bikers! #bunnyhop #mtbhacks #bikehacks #roxybike #ridelikeagirl #mtbgirl

@roxy_ride.and.inspire ❗️First off: NO – a #manual is NOT a basic move. ✅ And YES, I know this is „just“ a manual front wheel lift – not a sustained manual. BUT: 1️⃣ without a good, consistent lift, you’ll never learn a manual 🤷♀️ 2️⃣ learning a manual FWL as an adult (and especially as a shorter rider) IS challenging! 🫵 That’s why episode 1 of my new „Common Errors Series“ is about the Manual FWL. 🫶 My mission: making skills easier to learn – especially for women 😍 Why? When I started mountain biking, I kept hearing: 👉 „Easy: Just move the body down and then back in an L movement“ 🫨 But for me it was not „easy“ 🥴 and although many (especially male) coaches think so: bringing the body BACK does not automatically bring the front end UP 🆙 👉 …especially if you’re short and light 🧚♀️ 🤓 With the tips in this video, however, many of my coaching clients DO achieve a manual FWL – and so can you! 💪 With persistent practice and the right focus. 👉 And if you’d like to learn even faster, let’s work together. It’s my job to help you learn skills faster – no matter the age, gender or size 😍 (Find my home training courses in my bio) 🤓 Did you find this helpful? @roxy_ride.and.inspire I see the OPPOSITE of “Tip 3” done ALL THE Time 🫨 👉 Wallrides are actually just big berms made of wood 🪵 😱 BUT many find them mentally more challenging – especially if you’re learning to ride them as an adult. ❗️What’s important is to LEAN into the corner with the bike – and you need to get used to this. How to work your way up? 1️⃣ Start slow and on a smooth berm or wallride, ride the low line. Stay heavily weighted through the feet, pedals level, eyes scanning ahead. Lean the bike AND the body into the corner – to keep the wheels perpendicular to the wall. 2️⃣ Gradually increase speed and work your way towards the high line on the berm/wall 3️⃣ Allow yourself the time to practice, repeat ♻️ and gradually smoothen out your arch and loosen up. 4️⃣ Have fun with it and celebrate your progress 😍 👁️🗨️ Bonus tip: ❌Do NOT brake in the berm/on the feature. ✅Adjust your speed before. ❗️This is especially important if the wood is wet ⚠️ #mtbskills #skillstuningisnotacrime #roxybike #mtbtips #howtoride #berms #wallride #mtblove #minitutorial #tipsandtricks #mtb #mtbforyou @SQlab GmbH @EnduraOfficial @G-Form @BernhardHavelkaMTB

@roxy_ride.and.inspire 😰 If #switchbacks scare you, then it’s maybe because of one of these #commonerrors 😇 🏷️ Find it helpful? Save this post! ℹ️ Want more info? READ ON! 👇 ❓Why steer to the outside? 👉 Because your rear wheel tracks a narrower line than your front wheel. ✅ Opening up the turn makes room for the rear wheel. ❓What does feathering the brakes mean? 👉 It means that you gently moooodulaaaate the brakes, constantly adjusting the braking power to attain a controlled speed throughout. Think of using your brakes like a DIMMER. ❌ NOT like a light switch 💡 (on and off) ✅ This makes the turn controlled and avoids the front wheel getting stuck/tilting. ❓Why not look to the outside? 👉 Because that’s where the cliff/edge is in many tight switchbacks. 🧠 Your brain will then see the danger and probably brake more than needed or STOP. ❗️This tip is a game changer: ✅ Look to the INSIDE of the turn, this will rotate your entire body into the turn and allow your brain to relax. 🙋♀️ An easy and proven way to turn this knowledge into abilities? 🚀 Check the link in my profile, you’ll also get a FREE Trackstand course – which is an essential (but often overlooked) prerequisite for tight turns and a step by step switchbacks course to easily learn skills from home with my proven #drills 🚲 My bike: #lapierrebikes Overvolt in S (mullet) 👚 My full gear: #enduraofficial 🦵 Our knee pads: #gform Terra 🍑 Our saddles & grips: #sqlab ☮️ My wheels: #noblwheels 👨 @BernhardHavelkaMTB Bernis clothes: #platzangst #mtbtips #mtbskills #skillzovershred #skillstuningisnotacrime #roxybike #spitzkehre #mountainbiking #mtbcoaching #dosanddonts #mountainbike #mtb

@roxy_ride.and.inspire 😨 Do you fear steep, chunky or steppy sections, especially if they are directly followed by a tight turn?! ❓Relatable! 🙀 Many riders fear them and I have seen MANY riders fail at them! 🤕 🤔 Why is that? 💡 Because many riders think you need to RELEASE the brakes as soon as you’re riding roll-downs or chunk. ❌ If, however, roll-downs are accompanied by steepness, releasing the brakes means: you will gain A LOT of speed. 👉 Releasing the brakes DOES work, if there is enough space afterwards to ride it out, or if the trail flattens out. ✋ BUT, if there is a tight corner right afterwards (or if the trail continues steeply), you MUST modulate your brakes TROUGHOUT! 🪶 Modulated braking means: you must FEATHER the brakes to maintain braking control – you need to maintain your braking power JUST before the threshold, to avoid skidding wheels and ensure gently rolling wheels for traction. ✅ YES you can also brake during corners – if you’re mindfully MODULATING your brakes vs. PULSING them! ✅ Also, you must have practiced modulated braking often enough in a safe environment to develop the FINE COORDINATION and ANTICIPATION to constantly adjust your braking power. ❗️Brake modulation sounds “simple and basic”, but actually requires a lot of dedicated practice. 👩🏫 My full-time coaching career, working with riders of ALL levels shows me: braking skills is what keeps MANY riders from progressing from intermediate to advanced. 💯 If you want to unlock gnar, tech, steeps and more: check the link in my profile to get access to my proven, easy-to-follow, pro coaching drills. #mountainbiking #mtbskills #tighturn #rolldown #roxybike #mtbtutorial #skillsanalysis

@roxy_ride.and.inspire 😨 Technical turns scare you?! 🤗 That’s understandable, I’ve been there!! 💪 How to gain confidence?? ✅ By refining your solid FUNdamental riding skills in combination. 👉 Work on a stable body position with HEAVY FEET, LIGHT HANDS to stay balanced with your body weight over the bottom bracket (many people call this “centered”) – if this is new to you, check the link in my bio or send me a message! ✅ This will ensure traction and allow your body to roll over obstacles easily. 👉 This will allow you to SEPERATE the bike from the body, in other words: allow the bike to move beneath you, while you keep your body stable. 👀 Your vision is your key “information feed” for your brain. ✅ Scan ahead to where you WANT to go. ❌ Often riders look at where they don’t want to go… 👁️ Although our vision is trainable – if it’s hard to break the habit of looking at potential dangers, this may be an indication that you are subconsciously aware that you are not fully in control of directing your bike where you want to go. 🤗 😍 Let’s work together!! @roxy_ride.and.inspire These tips are traps! 😎 Usually, 2 types of people give these tips: 1️⃣ Physically strong riders (often, but not exclusively, men) 2️⃣ Technically strong riders (especially those who learnt to drop as a youngster) …actually, the intentions behind these tips may be good! BUT if you are an adult who doesn’t know how to drop, are new to drops or are scared of drops, these tips will NOT help! (NO – „let me tow you in!“ will not help, either!) 🫨 Why do these riders give these tips? 🚀 Because to physically and technically strong riders dropping actually FEELS like they’re doing „nothing“ – because it’s SUBTLE movements, at the right time, at the right speed, that lead to success! ➡️ These subtle movements need to be adapted to your strength, size, the type of bike you’re riding, to the type of drop, to the angle of the landing, the angle of the take-off and more! 🚀 Here are 3 tips: 1️⃣ Start practicing drops on a curb with the intention of landing both wheels at the same time 2️⃣ Film yourself and analyze yourself 3️⃣ When consistently successful, move to a slightly larger step and sloped landing (still rollable!) #mtbdrop #howtodrop #mtbskills #roxybike #tiptrap #mountainbike #mtbforyou

@roxy_ride.and.inspire As a full-time coach I’ve seen MANY riders (of all levels) walk or crash on similar sections of the trail…. – especially when there is a step or rock in the short uphill, like here. (Let me assure you, it ALWAYS looks easier on camera 😂) Follow these tips – especially pumping and standing UP, moving your body forward in the bike during the steep, and then coasting briefly with level pedals is such a game changer – as it avoids clipping a pedal on a rock and the pump allows you to TAKE SPEED with you. Also, it’s a “coordination drill instructor” and teaches you excellent bike handling skills! How to? 1️⃣ Bend arms as the front wheel rolls up the roller 2️⃣ Extend arms as the front wheel axle passes the peak of the roller. As the rear wheel comes up to the peak, bend the legs 🦵 3️⃣ Extend the legs, as the rear wheel starts to roll down the roller = this propels the bike forward 💥 #mtbtutorial #mountainbiking #mtbskills

@roxy_ride.and.inspire Riding rocky terrain CAN be easy, if you DO the following: 1️⃣ Stay heavily weighted through the feet 2️⃣ Moooduuulate the brakes and do not “grab & let go” – like the head banger 🎸 3️⃣ Use arms and legs as your suspension – absorbing rocks and allowing the bike to move into ditches & down roll-down. A dropper post will allow you to do this, while staying balanced in the bike. 4️⃣ NO – this post is not hating ebikes.
